There are few books that can stay in the back of my mind. This is one of those reads that I remind myself of daily. I wrote awhile back on condemnation, and the signs to see if we struggle in this area. If you want a refresher before you move on click on the ‘No More Condemnation” post here.
Having some a lot of time to think: I am reminded that it is important to talk to yourself daily, not just listen to yourself. I have heard Eddie say this a million times, but I didn’t know how to do this! I thought that it sounded crazy, quite frankly.
Truth is: we listen to ourselves think all day long from the first waking minute to the last thought right before your head hits the pillow. Right now you are thinking to yourself how very true this is. Right???
Why not make the best use of this brain power? Try to convert every thought: whether it is how you are dreading getting back to work, or how your spouse is really on your nerves today, how you don’t deserve the low level pay you are given and turn them into prayers. “Lord, help me be satisfied with all of your blessings: my job, wife, and even my pay!” The idea is to preach the gospel to your self every day! (Please click on the word ‘gospel’ for a short video and the gospel in text form.) To remind yourself of your salvation instead of roll in all the sinful thoughts your mind produces in a day. I find that this has helped me tremendously keep my mind from all of the garbage that I can convince myself in one afternoon… well, in one minute, really.
C.J. Mahaney quotes Jerry Bridges: “To preach the gospel to yourself means that you continually face up to your own sinfulness and then flee to Jesus through faith in His shed blood and righteous life.”
